November 2022

Hello Amigos!

Happy November! This month has been characterized by a sinus infection that just won't quit, new forging friendships and an ever-faithful God. Here are a few highlights from the past month.

CDI

We've welcome a lot of new kids in the CDI and have had a few more changes as we near the end of the year. My coworker Sigourney had her baby (yay!) which means I am the primary teacher in the CDI right now. With the mix of kids from 8-16 years old we've been focusing mostly on reading and handwriting! We will be ending the year at the CDI on the 15th of December with a Christmas party for the kids and then we will return on January 23rd after the holidays.

Meet Ruben and Miguel

These boys have been with us for a few years now at the CDI and are full of energy and smiles. Last Monday their 24-year-old mom, Blanca, passed away after suffering respiratory failure in the hospital. She was nursing a 4-month-old baby at the time as well as caring for Ruben, Miguel and their 3-year-old brother, now orphans. Food was scarce in their household and many times the meals these boys receive in the CDI is the only one they eat each day, and knowing this we've asked that Ruben and Miguel come daily to the CDI and we will be checking in with them over Christmas break to make sure they have food to eat.

My heart breaks for these boys and this makes me incredibly thankful that I have the opportunity to love on Ruben and Miguel. As difficult as this has been I am reminded that many children that I interact with daily have experienced loss in different ways, and its a reminder of the incredibly broken world we live in. We cannot predict how many days we have left or the trials we will go through, but we do have the ability to make sure that each person we interact with has heard the Gospel and has the opportunity to accept the gift of salvation. Please pray for Ruben and Miguel, for where they will live, that they will continue coming to the CDI, and that the Lord will soften their hearts and they will embrace Him as their true Father.

My parents came for a short visit this month and even surprised me a day early! It was such a fun and sweet time together 💙

Support Update

Over these past two years, you have been my partner in prayer and financial support, and for that I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart! Thank you for saying “yes” to God’s touch on your heart to give towards this ministry and making these past two years possible. This past year we welcomed 85 kids back to the CDI after 2 years of suspended classes due to the pandemic, and over the past 2 years I've had the privilege of serving 6 mission groups. Each week, your generous giving allows me to minister to over 80 children, and this month 15 children heard the gospel for what may have been the first time in their lives!

These past two years I have not mentioned much about the state of my financial support, because you have been generous and faithful in your giving! My monthly support is strong, but I do rely on one-time gifts for unexpected expenses and ministry resources as the needs arise. Would you pray and consider giving a one-time gift?

May the Lord bless you deeply and richly for every way that you have blessed me!

Pray with Me

  • Praise for new children in the CDI and prayers that they may come to know Jesus as their Savior.
  • For Miguel and Ruben Trejo in the process of their grief and as they get settled into a new permanent home.
  • Health- Whether it's COVID, the flu or just the classic cold it seems like there's always something to go around.
  • For end-of-year craziness as we finish out the year here at the CDI and for God's protection over the kids on their vacation.
  • Retreat- Our youth group has a combined retreat with the other GCLA youth groups in San Salvador December 9-10

It seems crazy how much the Lord did this year and how fast it went! Through starting back full time at the CDI, hosting more mission groups and my first home assignment you have been a faithful and constant partner and I am so incredibly grateful for you. I hope that this upcoming holiday season is restful and full of peace!

Bendiciones,
Alyssa
